Francisco José Pablo LACOMA (Barcelone 1784 - Madrid 1849)
Portrait of the Infanta Louise-Charlotte of Bourbon-Deux Siciles On its original canvas. Signed lower left Lacoma. Stamp of the collection of the Duchess of Berry on the back. 35 x 24.5 cm Provenance: - Collection of Marie-Caroline de Bourbon-Deux Siciles (1798-1870), Duchess of Berry, sister of the model, Paris, Château des Tuileries, Pavillon de Marsan, then probably Venice, Palazzo Vendramin; - Collection of a Neapolitan noble family (after Mario Praz); - Collection of Mario Praz (1896-1982), writer and art historian, Rome. Bibliography: - M. Praz, La Casa della vita, Milan, 1958, p. 326; - M. Praz, Histoire de la décoration d'intérieur: la philosophie de l'ameublement, Paris, 1964, p. 45; G. Dell'Aja, Il pantheon dei Borboni in Santa Chiara di Napoli, Naples, 1987, p. 442 Our portrait appears in a watercolour by Jean-François Garneray (1755-1837) depicting the Salon of the Duchess of Berry in the Pavillon de Marsan (Lodovico Lucchesi-Palli Collection, Brunnsee Castle, Austria). Louise Charlotte de Bourbon-Deux Siciles (1804-1844), daughter of King François I and Marie Isabelle of Spain, married her maternal uncle François de Paule in 1819. She was the sister of the Duchess of Berry. Intriguing, she played an important political role at the Spanish court supporting the liberals against the absolutists. She thus contributed to the ousting of the Carlist candidate in favour of her niece, the future Isabella II.
