Albert MARQUET (1875-1947) Boat at Herblay, autumn morning 1918 Oil on canvas board. Signed lower right. 33 x 41 cm Provenance - P. G. Collection. - Among his descendants. Exhibition: - Paris, "Les Maîtres de l'Art Indépendant 1895-1937", Petit-Palais, May - November 1937. The work is accompanied by a letter from Raymond Escholier, curator of the Petit Palais. Organized as part of the 1937 International Exhibition by Raymond Escholier, curator of the Petit Palais but also a journalist and art critic, the exhibition of the Masters of Independent Art aimed to promote the superiority of the contemporary French school of art, extended to foreign artists "living or having lived in France for many years". Spread over the entire garden level of the museum, the exhibition featured over fifteen hundred works by almost one hundred and twenty artists, including Rodin, Bonnard, Bourdelle, Maillol, Matisse, Modigliani and Vuillard, as well as Braque, Chagall, Derain, Dufy, Léger, Picasso, Van Dongen, Vlaminck...and Marquet.
