Brown half-maroquin with corners, gilt granite paper boards, wide gilt fillet on boards, gilt title and author on spine, gilt quadruple fillet and square pastille on spine, gilt head, untrimmed, double covers and spine preserved, in lined slipcase. First edition, one of 62 on Madagascar, in the head edition, and among them, one of XII in Roman numerals. With a letter from Dreyfus to Paul Goute, "the true godfather of this work", dated January 1929. Jointly bound in uniform binding: DREYFUS, Robert. La République. 1871-1873. Paris, Galimard, 1930. Ordinary edition. With an autograph dispatch to the same: "This first copy finally "out", which is well due to him!" June 19, 1930.
