China, 20th century. Six-leaf lacquered wood screen with engraved polychrome decoration on a red background. Side A: ducks and various birds flying or walking among reeds. Side B: a fenghuang on a rocky knoll and other birds including cranes among plants including peony flowers in full bloom. Size (single leaf): 183.5 x 40.5 cm. Size (assumed total, unfolded): 40.5 x 243 cm. (wear, repaints, hinge accident)
