17TH-CENTURY ITALIAN SCHOOL *The Nativity* Oil on re-stretched canvas 63 x 47.5 cm Formerly attributed to the School of Benvenuto da Garafalo, known as Tisio. This painting was based on an engraving by Polidoro da Caravaggio (1499–1500/1543), which in turn was based on a composition by Cort Cornelis (1533/1578). Attached is a certificate from the expert Mr. Paul ANTONINI dated November 4, 1960: “School of Benvenuto da Garafalo, known as Tisio / ‘The Adoration of the Magi’ / Canvas,” etc., following the auction conducted by Maître Le Houelleur on January 22, 1961, in DEAUVILLE.
