GARNESSON, in PARIS. Country-style writing case made of cardboard and green morocco leather. The set consists of a wallet with one interior pocket, from which a writing mat unfolds, ending in a compartment. This compartment holds a cylindrical case with three compartments, which in turn contains two inkwells. The folder is hot-stamped on the inside, upper left: “Garnesson Maison (?) Egalité.” Inside the compartment, a label bears the handwritten inscription “Garnesson / Palais Royal No. 25 and Gallerie de Pierre No. 56.” A Parisian piece from the early 19th century. Dimensions (wallet, folded): 6 x 27.5 cm. Dimensions (wallet, unfolded): 30 x 27 cm. Dimensions (case): 4 x 26 cm. (Outer section partially sun-faded, with creases, slight tears, and stains; inner section stained with ink, with creases and signs of wear) The GARNESSON firm, which had a store in the galleries of the Palais-Royal, was a dealer in travel and toiletries during the Empire and later during the Restoration.
