First edition of the French translation, decorated with a folding map of the route between Moscow and Peking. The Scottish ambassador and physician Jean Bell d'Antermony (1691 1780) travelled from 1715 to 1738 on behalf of Peter I of Russia. His diplomatic travels took him to Peking, Isfahan and Derbent in Persia and Constantinople. Followed by the : Diary of the residence of Mr. Lange, Agent of his Imperial Majesty of All Russia, Peter I, at the court of Peking, in 1721 & 1722 containing his negotiations, in continuous pagination.
