[JEWELRY] [PEDRETTI]. Drawings by M. Pedretti... - Lot 253 - Delon - Hoebanx
[JEWELRY] [PEDRETTI]. Drawings by M. Pedretti (engraver and draftsman of the Duke of Luynes, established in Versailles) for the plates of the gold objects in the collection of Mr. the Duke of Luynes. Set of drawings, of various sizes, drawn in pencil, some enhanced with wash or watercolour. Some of these drawings were used for the attached engraved plates. The drawn and/or engraved gold objects were part of the Luynes Collection donation to the Medals Cabinet of the National Library. The Duke of Luynes' collection was donated to the Medals Cabinet of the National Library in 1862-1863. This collection was the most important source of enrichment for the Medals Office in the 19th century, both in archaeology and numismatics. The donation (registered on 15 April 1863 under the number F 726) includes nearly 6925 antique coins, 4442 of which are preserved in the Greek collection. It also includes many objects, including 373 engraved stones, cameos and antique intaglios, cylinder seals and cones from the Near East, nearly 200 Greek, Etruscan and Roman gold jewels, most of them from excavations in southern Italy, 39 bronze statuettes, armour and weapons. Greek ceramics also plays a very important role in the donation with 86 vases of exceptional quality and 200 fragments. Some sculptures are also part of the ensemble, including the beautiful torso of an anadyomenous Venus in white marble, with wet hair falling in curls on her back. A small Egyptian collection of figurines and papyrus, Greek and Phoenician weights, and Phoenician and Cypriot inscriptions complete the donation. - Original pencil drawings on strong cardboard. A total of 91 drawings of various sizes. 6 large engraved plates (some freckles), dimensions: 360 x505 mm.
