EUGENE GAILLARD, attribué à
Exceptional mahogany display cabinet with a curved cubic box entirely carved with foliage motifs. It opens in the upper part by glass doors opening onto shelves and in the lower part by two accordion doors revealing a storage space. It rests on four ribbed corner feet. Around 1900-1905. H : 183 l : 74 P : 35 cm Provenance : - Acquired from : the Charles Gillot family in the 1970's - Private collection In 1879, Charles Gillot asked his friend, the illustrator Eugène Grasset, to design the decoration and furnishings of his mansion at 79 rue Madame in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. This whole set is created by the decorator and executed in the years 1880-1885 by the cabinetmaker Fulfraff who works then for Charles Gillot. A part of this whole arrangement is preserved in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris. In 1905, Charles Gillot's daughter, Louise-Marcelle Seure, recently married to the archaeologist Georges Seure, commissioned Eugène Grasset to design a series of furnishings for her new apartment. It is very likely that Eugène Grasset also ordered furniture from contemporaries such as Eugène Gaillard in order to decorate the different rooms of the mansion and his daughter's apartment. The two pieces of furniture we are presenting to you are unique pieces, they were acquired directly from the family of Charles Gillot in the 1970's from the couple Marcel and Gabrielle Richard (née Gillot) By their stylistic and formal characteristics they are attributable to Eugene Gaillard.
