La Dioptrique oculaire, ou La théorique, la positive, et la méchanique, de l'oculaire dioptrique en toutes ses espèces. Paris, Thomas Jolly, Simon Benard, 1671. 1 vol. in-folio. Contemporary full tan calf, spine ornate, red morocco title-piece. First edition of this important treatise decorated with a frontispiece and a vignette at the head engraved by G. Edelinck after Le Pautre. Well completed with 57 plates (6 of which are folding), and two figures in text by L. Cossinus, after the author representing microscopes, telescopes, planets, the Moon, and various machines. Father Cherubin, a Capuchin of Orleans, François Lasseray by name (1614-1697), made many optical instruments, including the binocular telescope. Joints cracked, missing upper cover, some nerves and lower box, rubbing at corners. Cuts and restorations to the title page, restoration to the spine of the frontispiece, in the upper margin; a few leaves slightly foxed.
