In the Middle Ages, troglodytic dwellings implanted on the hillside multiplied. It is then the development of the old heart of the village of Haute-Isle essentially made up of troglodytic dwellings known as "boves". Administratively, Haute-Isle, a small seigniory, depended on the duchy of La Roche-Guyon, a neighboring town. In 1602, the lord of Haute-Isle was André Le Marchant.
