BOURGET, Paul. - Lot 264
BOURGET, Paul. Pastels (ten portraits of women)/Nouveaux Pastels (ten portraits of men). Paris, Lemerre, 1889 - 1891. 2 vol. in-12. Full red percaline à la Bradel, smooth spine, black calf title page, gilt date, cover boards preserved [HENRY - JOSEPH]. First editions. Copies of Edmond Goncourt, with his handwritten bookplate on each volume and the mention " original edition ", in red ink. The Pastels volume is enriched with a double autograph dispatch: "To Edmond de Goncourt his well devoted Paul Bourget", on the false title; dispatch from the dedicatee of the text Autre inconnue, Paul Mariéton. "To Jeanne Hatto, with the great tenderness of M. Paul Mariéton". Jeanne Hatto was an opera singer. To the title of Chapter VIII : Autre Inconnue, under the name of the printed dedicatee Paul Mariéton, Paul Bourget added a sending : " Avec toute ma tendresse, Paul Bourget ". Interesting work with multiple dedicatees. Slight rubbing to the title-pieces and corners, not serious; small lack of percaline at the bottom of the upper spine of the volume Nouveaux Pastels.
