Burma, late 19th-early 20th century Kammavaca leaf inscribed in brown lacquer, in Pali in the Burmese angular script, on a gold-lacquered palm leaf, the background decorated with scrolls in red. (Framed under glass) Dim. 12.8 x 57 cm Note: Kammavaca were Buddhist ordination manuscripts, given by families to temples on the occasion of a son's ordination, and comprised sixteen leaves and two wooden covers.
