[Autograph signature of RODIN, Auguste] BULLOZ, Jacques-Ernest. 29 original photographs of sculptures, eight with Rodin's autograph signature. Important and rare set of 29 photographs by Bulloz of sculptures by Rodin : We have organized their description according to cardboard size: - 8 photographs mounted on cardboard 54 x 43 cm. (one in two states: sepia - black) Bearing the stamp in red at lower right "L'œuvre de Rodin J. E. Bulloz édit. Paris". Six of them bear Rodin's autograph signature on the back, Gustave Coquiot in the center and a number in the top left. Sometimes the subject is named. One of the eight photographs has no mention on the back but the red stamp, another has the mentions on the back with Rodin's signature but not the Bulloz stamp. The name Gustave Coquiot and the number also appear to be in Rodin's hand. Perhaps these are the original photographs taken in preparation for the publication of the book: Rodin, 57 statues, portrait de Rodin par Renoir. Text by Gustave Coquiot. Paris, Bernheim jeune, 1915. The seven signed photos are all reproduced in the book and are based on Bulloz's plates: plates 6, 8, 19, 22, 23, 46 and 53. The printing of the plates had been approved by Rodin. His autograph signature may validate these plates. We enclose a further 21 unmarked photographs, probably by the same photographer: - 17 photographs of Rodin's sculptures mounted on cardboard 63 x 48 cm. Photos of various sizes 36.4 x 24.8 cm. One of the largest, 28.8 x 21.5 cm for the smallest Balzac head. - 1 photograph of a drawing of a self-portrait by Rodin mounted on 27.8 x 22 cm cardboard. - 2 photographs on a cardboard mount covered with patterned paper. 50 x 40.5 cm. - 1 cardboard photo 44 x 48 cm.
