Vietnam, 20th century, Yellow silk imperial almanac for the emperor, decorated on both sides with gold and polychrome thread embroidery of dragons spread out over foaming waves. Small gold sequins complete the ornamentation. Calligraphy in a cartouche on a red background "thất chánh" (七政, "seven principals"). The "Seven Principals" refer to the seven main stars - Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, Saturn, Sun and Moon - that govern human life according to Sino-Vietnamese cosmology.
