Hand-held trebuchet-type balance in blackened and gilded wood, the chased brass beam decorated with birds framing a flowery basket topped by a palmette, the gilded bronze counterweight in the form of a sphinx, all resting on a square base that opens with a drawer at the front. Work of the 18th century. H. 38 - W 21.5 - D 22.5 cm. (accidents, incomplete) Provenance: By family tradition, this scale is said to have belonged to Madame La Dauphine Marie Anne de Bavière, then bequeathed to the Richshoffer family.
