Thomas COMPIGNÉ (18th century) Gilded pewter medallion depicting a view of the Château de Versailles taken from the Avenue de Paris. 18th century. Total diameter: 9.3 cm. (wear) Thomas Compigné, Tabletier privilégié du roi Louis XV, set up shop at the "Roi David" sign on rue Greneta, sold "boxes, tric-trac, checkers and chess accessories, snuffboxes and cane knobs or landscape miniatures". His specialty was small paintings in pewter, stamped and enhanced with gold, then gouache and varnish, which took the name "Compigné".
