First edition of this Enlightenment monument to French thought and technology. The text volumes were published from 1751 to 1765. One text volume is missing: volume 7 F-H. The frontispiece is missing. The 11 volumes of plates were published between 1762 and 1772, and the 5 supplementary works between 1776 and 1780. Complete with the 11 volumes of plates, the 5 volumes of supplements including one plate and the two volumes of tables. The work is illustrated with 3124 plates out of 3129. A total of 5 plates are missing (Carpenters, Locksmiths). Volume I also lacks 2 leaves: pages 443 to 446. Complete with 7 folding tables (volumes I, VIII, volumes I, II and III of the supplement) and the large folding table "Essai d'une distribution généalogique des Sciences et des Arts", in the table volume.
