Full brown morocco, spine ribbed, gilt author and title, large painted decoration on front cover depicting a hanging scene in the manner of a stained-glass window, gilt fillet on edges, gilt edges. Covers and spine preserved. [R. DEVAUCHELLE]. The book's illustrations are repeats of woodcuts illustrating works from the late 15th and first half of the 16th centuries. Edition of 430 copies. One of 400 copies on Arches vellum. The painted composition on the first cover of the binding is inspired by two illustrations in the book, on pages 46 and 147 (the one on page 147 is also found on the title page and second cover).
