Full havana morocco, spine ribbed, author and title gilt, first plate decorated with a large vignette depicting the portrait of a Japanese woman in incised and tinted blond calfskin, spine flaps decorated in the same techniques with two bonsais and six cranes, blue tabis endpapers with gilt highlights, marbled paper double endpapers, gilt head. Covers and spine preserved (first cover discolored at top). Bordered case. [CL. HARCOURT]. Book decorated with woodcuts by Auguste Roubille: a frontispiece, four hors-texte, three headpieces, fifty-three headbands and fifty-five culs-de-lampe. The proof indicates "Illustrated with 30 original woodcuts": several of the headbands and tailpieces are the same several times. Edition of 1,200 copies, this one no. 492 on Arches vellum.
