19th century ENGLISH school, after William DANIELL The Canton "factories" circa 1805 - 1806 Canvas 90 x 125 cm Remake of a painting by William Daniell, a version of which is in the Museum of Art, Hong Kong. William Daniell spent a long time in Canton from 1796 onwards. He brought back sketches that he would later use. The English term "factory" refers to the foreign trading posts established along the Pearl River, recognizable by their various flags.
