Qadjar mirror. - Lot 347
Qadjar mirror. Steel with engraved and gold-damascened decoration in the koftgari technique. Iran, 19th century, Qadjar period. Size: 71 x 42 x 17 cm. Some pieces of furniture of this type are referred to as Koran-holders. The central part consists of a mirror mounted in a steel frame with gold engraved and damascened decoration of court scenes in mandorles, arabesques and calligraphic cartouches. It is framed by a steel structure entirely in gold damascened, composed of two canted uprights, the bases of which form flowers. The mirror is crowned by a pediment forming a scalloped mandorla, whose edges are also damascened with floral friezes, with a central finial adorned with figures.
