Jean VOLANG (1919-2005) - Lot 10
Jean VOLANG (1919-2005) Portrait of an elegant woman wearing a hat and holding a bird. Oil on canvas signed lower left. Size: 64 x 49 cm. "Born in 1921 in Hué, Vo Lang trained at the École des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine - where Joseph Inguimberty was his teacher - from which he graduated in 1942. He then turned to diplomacy, before returning to painting when he came to France in 1950, where he took the name Volang. A well-traveled artist, he exhibited extensively both in France and abroad. Like this canvas, his light, luminous works are adorned with a mysterious halo, making them almost dreamlike. The blurred outlines of his subjects, treated in the manner of the Impressionists, have earned him the nickname "Vietnamese Renoir". Volang's diaphanous palette, combined with an almost naïve dimension, makes him an undoubted success". Source : Gazette Drouot. Publication of October 31, 2024 by Christophe Provot about a similar portrait by the same artist sold for 16,500 euros on October 22, 2024 in Brest.
