Charles Lacretelle (1766-1855) was initially attached to the editorial staff of the Débats newspaper, but was proscribed in 1795 for his monarchist convictions. After his release, he rallied to the Bourbons. A member of the Académie française in 1811, he was professor of history at the Sorbonne. He is considered one of the pioneers of the historical study of the French Revolution. Epidermized binding, with splits at the jaws and damage to a headpiece.
