Full 19th-century blond calf, double gilt fillet, gilt coat of arms at center of covers, spine decorated in the grotesque style, interior gilt roulette. Rare first edition. The preface offers a definition of the romance genre. A fine copy bearing the arms of Guillaume Gabriel Pavée de Vendeuvre (1779 - 1870). Fragility at the spine. Light spotting, a few scattered spots.
