ARNAUD D'ANDILLY. History of the Jews written by Flavius Joseph under the title Antiquitez judaïques. Paris, Pierre Petit, 1667. 1 vol. in-folio. Full olive-green morocco, triple gilt fillet on covers, gilt arms in center, ornate ribbed spine, gilt title, gilt edges.
Title page in red and black, with engraved vignette.
Arnauld d'Andilly's first translation of the work by the Greek historian of the Jewish religion Flavius Josephus.
It is decorated with a title vignette, an engraved out-of-text plate and 6 engravings in the text, as well as 22 bands, 22 lettrines and 17 culs-de-lampe.
A fine copy that belonged to Madame Victoire de France, with her royal coat of arms and bookplate engraved on the flyleaf.
Bibliotheca Regia" stamp on title page.
Ex-libris "R" bearing the motto "Bona fide sine fraude", the motto of Amédée Rigaud (1819-1873), honorary stockbroker. He began acquiring works and building a library in 1852.
Mottling on covers. Insolation to morocco. Restored tear on pages 5 and 6. Angular staining, p111 to 114, stains p217, in margins pp 421 to 426, some foxing. Pagination error: no page 165 - 166, not missing.
