ALBANIS DE BEAUMONT, Jean François. Travels through the Maritime Alps, from Italy to Lyon, across the Col de Tende, via Nice, Provence, and Languedoc, London: T. Bensley for J. Edwards and W. Faden, 1795. Modern binding, full havana leather, gilt fillet and fleurons on the covers, decorated ribbed spine, title label. First edition. Text only. All engravings are missing. An engineer in Nice in the service of the King of Sardinia in 1775, Albanis de Beaumont accompanied the Duke of Gloucester and his family on their Grand Tour in 1780. In 1787, he published two travel albums in Geneva devoted to the County of Nice and the Pennine Alps. He subsequently settled in London, where he published three new albums between 1792 and 1795, notably on the Rhaetian Alps. (Perret. Alpinisme, no. 332).
