Pierre de La Vergne, abbé de TRESSAN (1618-1684) protestant converti, il fut prêtre et missionnaire au Liban.
L.A.S., [December 1666], to Monseigneur; 3 pages in-4. He was named vicar general of Narbonne, but his presence at the assembly caused some confusion: "the whole province is informed that the King only granted me the grace to come and fill the place of vicar general of Narbonne to my person without that being able to be extended to the other vicar generals of Mr de Narbonne or of Lord Levesque of Agde. I learn, however, that S. M. wants to retract the grace she gave me and to confuse me with those who did not have the same mission as me". He pleads his case, believing that he has taken "just measures"; but he is ready to obey: "I will sacrifice without pity to his will and his desire all the displeasure I may receive from the confusion which will inevitably follow such a sudden change, and such an imprecise retreat. It is "as easy for the King to deny the entrance to the estates to the other Grand Vicars of Narbonne in the following years, or to restrict it to me alone, as it is for him to deny it to me this year after having given it to me. [...] Nothing makes me more vulnerable than to have passed through here with the approval of His Majesty and to be revoked by his order"...
