In French, decorated manuscript on paper
France, ca. 1750 [5] - 134 [5] pp, complete, cursive writing in brown ink, text framed in ornate stencilled decoration, music notated on 5-line staves, table at end of manuscript.
Bound in 18th century red morocco, five-ribbed spine with partitions and fleurons alternating with the cross of Lorraine and the tower of Turenne, gilt lettering, gilt lace, coat of arms in the centre, double gilt fillet on the edges, blue tabis endpapers, gilt edges. (Good condition, gilt slightly faded; good condition inside).
Dimensions : 145 x 195 mm.
Nice manuscript in morocco with lace on the arms of Louise-Henriette-Gabrielle de Lorraine.
Manuscript dedicated to Louise-Henriette-Gabrielle de Lorraine, with the arms of the latter : the dedication is signed " Le tres humble et tres obeissant serviteur Berard ". It must be Jean-Baptiste Bérard (17101772), tenor and singing teacher, who made his debut at the Paris Opera (Royal Academy of Music) in early 1733. Dismissed, he joined the Comédie Italienne and then returned to the Opéra. He composed a work for the Marquise de Pompadour: L'art du chant dédié à Madame de Pompadour par M. Bérard (Paris, 1755). Louise-Henriette-Gabrielle de Lorraine (1718-1788) was Princess of Turenne, Countess of Évreux and Duchess of Bouillon. In 1743, Louise-Henriette married Godefroy de La Tour d'Auvergne, Sovereign Duke of Bouillon, Prince of Turenne, Grand Chamberlain of France, who was ten years younger than her. The duchess lived and died in Paris at the Hôtel de Bouillon and was buried in the church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris.
