This periodical is, with the Bulletin Héraldique of L. de La Roque, one of the main journals devoted to the history of the French nobility. According to Saffroy: "Nowhere could one find a more important collection of memoirs, dissertations and documents relating to the families, functions, rights and prerogatives of the Second Order from its origins to the Revolution. The publication continued until 1880 and includes a total of 17 volumes.
