14K (585) yellow gold ornament composed of a drapery necklace, a bracelet and an earring enhanced with oval or piriform miniatures representing portraits of Indian dignitaries and their wives India, Company School, second half of the 19th century Missing a tassel and a cracked glass Total gross weight: 104.3 g (necklace: 61.4 g - bracelet: 40.2 g and earring: 2.7 g) These miniatures painted in Delhi in gouache on ivory for the British residents in India represent in particular Muhammad Bahadur Shah last Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan and his wife Muntaz Mahal whose body rests in the Taj Mahal in Agra, Dost Muhammad of Kabul, Ranjit Sirgh Sikh Maharadja of the Panjab, Maharadja Gulab Sing, Maharadja Sher Sing governor of Lahore By way of comparison, similar bangles are preserved in renowned public collections such as the Metropolitan Museum in New York (inventory 62.229) and the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore (inventory 38.665), while a similar necklace was sold at Artcurial on 12 December 2006, lot 37
