Jean de MORVILLIER (1506-1577) évêque d'Orléans, diplomate et garde des sceaux.
L.S. with autograph compliment, Lyon 31 May 1561, to CATHERINE DE MÉDICIS; 4 pages in-fol. Long letter to the Queen, concerning George Aubreth's summonses to Brittany, and the catastrophic situation of the finances: he looks in vain for money, and reminds that he borrowed in 1557 in Lyon "two cens mil escutz for the King, of which nothing has been paid since of the principal nor interest"; he makes the account of the sums he hopes to be able to collect, but reminds that it will be necessary to send the pay of the footmen in Piedmont of which M. de Bourdillon has "the urgent need"... He is going to proceed "to the verification of the debts which the Suysses pretend", but is afraid that they will show themselves "ruddes, and difficult"... Etc.
