Horati Flacci emblemata. Antverpiae, Officina Hieronymi Verdussen, 1607. 1 vol. in-4. Full contemporary fawn calf, spine gilt, red morocco title-piece. 213 pp. A title vignette in medallion, and 100 full-page figures by Boël, Cornelius Galle and Pieter de Jode. Original edition with sought-after engravings. Each emblem is introduced by a maxim, illustrated by a quatrain and explained by a quotation from Horace or other Latin authors. The text here is entirely in Latin. However, in our copy, printed bands with the German and French translations of the quatrains have been pasted on the lower part of each page. The missing leaves b1 and b4 have been replaced by handwritten leaves. However, the two engraved emblems on these leaves are missing.
