Beautiful and rare black lacquer portable altar opening in front with two doors, revealing a female Buddhist deity with eight arms (probably the goddess Kannon), seated in dyanasana, holding a fruit and other offerings in carved wood with traces of polychromy; gilded base in the form of a lotus flower resting on rocks; gilded background with mandorla; doors painted in polychromy with servant characters of the Buddhist Pantheon, not far from a river with embarkation, on a gold background. The gilded brass lock with rich ornamentation of naturalistic motifs. Late Momoyama/early Edo period H.: 38 cm (some polychromatic damage to the goddess and to the back of the box)
