Large circular porcelain dish decorated in blue underglaze with a large qilin near a banana tree looking at the moon with rocks, flowers and clouds. On the reverse side, four-character mark in blue within a double circle "yu tang jia qi" (fine tableware for the jade pavilion). The outer wall has a light blue-green celadon background. Shunzhi period (1644-1661) Similar models: Shanghai Museum; another in the Buttler Collection (Great Britain, reproduced in the book "Shunzhi porcelains, an unknown reign 1644-1661", was exhibited at the Princesshof Museum in 1886), another in the Fiorantini Collection. The qilin is a fabulous composite animal from Chinese mythology, half-horse, half-horse, it has scales and a pair of horns. It resides only in peaceful places and in the vicinity of a wise man. Discovering one is always a good omen. According to Thérèse Bartholomeu in her book "Myths and rebushes in Chinese art", the jade pavilion would be an elegant name for the Hanlin academy, the official office for scholars who had reached the highest levels. Diameter : 36,5 cm
