Attr. à UCHIDA KUICHI (1844-1875)
Abyss of Kanmangafuchi, Alignment of 74 statues of Jizo, Seen from Nikko, around 1873 3 albumen Dim. 215 x 269 mm Baptized Narabi Jizo, that is to say "the aligned Jizo" or Bake Jizo which means "the ghostly Jizo", because it is difficult to count exactly the same number of statues twice in a row. Originally there were about 100 of them, they were offered by Tenkai's disciples to the temple. Some of them disappeared after the river's assault, like the couple Oya Jizo, the largest in size and representing the Jizo parents. Others, barely recognizable, are now composed only of a few pebbles and a bib placed on the base. The original buildings of the temple were completely washed away by the great flood of 1902 and have been replaced.
