Vietnam, 1941 (16th year of the reign of Bảo Đại) Yellow silk imperial almanac, with double-sided gold and polychrome thread embroidered decoration of dragons deployed above foaming waves. Small red and green sequins complete the ornamentation. Calligraphy in a cartouche on a red background "Đông cung hoàng thái tử (東宮皇太子, "Crown Prince of the Eastern Palace". Dim. 28 x 17 cm N.B. The Prince of the Eastern Palace, "Đông Cung" is a prestigious historical title in Vietnam. It designates the crown prince of the throne, traditionally the eldest son of the king or emperor. From the Ly dynasty until the Nguyen dynasty, the Đông Cung Thái Tử was installed in a residence called "the Eastern Palace". The prince of the Eastern Palace mentioned on this calendar is Prince Nguyễn Phúc Bảo Long (1936-2007), eldest son of Bảo Đại, on March 7, 1939, crown prince of the last emperor of Vietnam, Bảo Đại before the abolition of the monarchy.
