A beautiful ICON OF SAINT NICHOLAS THE MIRACLE-WORKER, painted in oil on red fabric; the saint is depicted in the center, within a mandorla, giving a blessing and holding the Scriptures; the outer border, gilded and accented with red, features a scroll of ribbon-adorned flowering branches. It is preserved under glass in a stained wood frame. Russian work from the early 20th century. Overall dimensions: 64x64 cm. (Some areas of the paint layer are missing). Provenance: According to oral tradition, this icon is actually a fragment of a banner given by Empress Maria Feodorovna (1847–1928) to her chief lady-in-waiting, Baroness Oxholm.
