[OTTOMAN EMPIRE (TURKEY)]. Imperial Order of the Medjidie (1852–1922). Second-class (or Grand Officer) set comprising: - a second-class (Grand Officer) insignia in silver of at least 800‰ fineness, in the shape of a seven-pointed star flanked by a crescent and a star.Its center, made of rose gold with a minimum fineness of 916‰, is adorned with the tughra, surrounded by four red-enameled cartouches. Ottoman Mint hallmark on the reverse. The bail, made of a red-enameled alloy, consists of a crescent holding a five-pointed star. Gross weight: 35.8 g. Diameter: 73 x 58 mm. Included is its red ribbon edged in green (damaged; the rosette is missing). - a 2nd-class (Grand Officer) breast plate in silver of at least 800‰, shaped like a double seven-pointed star, the upper one with its points angled toward a crescent and a star. Its center, made of rose gold with a minimum fineness of 916‰, is adorned with the tughra, surrounded by four red-enameled cartouches. Ottoman Mint hallmark on the reverse. Fastened with a clasp and two side hooks. Gross weight: 93.8 g. Diameter: 83 mm. - Medal of Merit (Liakat Madalyasi) in yellow gold, minimum 916‰. Obverse: the Ottoman coat of arms surmounted by the tughra. Reverse: Arabic inscriptions: “Medal of Merit specially for those who have demonstrated loyalty and bravery,” followed by the date “1308 AH” (1890 AD). Red ribbon with double green side stripes, and two side pins for fastening. 1890. Gross weight: 10 g. Diameter: 25 mm. In its original wooden case for the Order of Knight, 2nd Class (Grand Officer), lined with dark mauve velvet and silk on the inside. The lid is embossed with the Tughra surrounded by a crown. Dimensions: 5 x 26 x 13.5 cm. (As is). Turkish craftsmanship from the late 19th century.
